The Shels under 12s resumed their league campaign today,
with an excellent performance against a touch Maynooth Town
side.Bearing in mind that the team haven't had a match since
mid November, they would have been excused for having had a
However, the girls got out of the blocks quickly, with Lia
O'Leary scoring two early goals to settle the team down.
The girls played some excellent football, with some quick
passing and moving to create a number of chances.
Emilie Slyne scored the third goal after some excellent
build up play, and scored her second, and Shels fourth,
after 20 minutes after a great pass from Abi Ward.
Aoife Penrose finished off a great move to lead 5-0 at
half-time with a good finish, and Isabel Craine almost
added a 6th on the stroke of half-time when her shot just
went past the post.
After half-time, the girls found it tougher to break down a strong Maynooth defence, and Sinead Fitzgerald had to make some excellent saves to keep them at bay as Maynooth created some good chances. Lia O'Leary completed her hat-trick midway through the second half with a super finish, after a great through ball from Lara McBride.
Shels kept playing good football throughout the second half, with Zoe Slyne, Nadia Nahedh, Ellie Roach and Erin Scallan all defending well, and playing some lovely passes out from the back.
Shels finished the game strongly but couldn't add to their goal tally, despite creating some great chances, and the game ended 6-0 to the girls in red.
